Aga Khan University Examination Board announces results for Class IX and X

Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB)
announced the results of the class IX and X examinations held in April and May
2008. More than 5,000 candidates sat in the examinations, responding well to the
challenge of demonstrating their comprehension of concepts and application of
knowledge, with 12.3 per cent gaining Grade A-1, 30. 9 per cent gaining Grade A
with an overall pass rate of 79.9 per cent of students in Arts and Science
groups in class X annual composite examinations.
Syeda Iqra Akber of Al-Murtaza School (Girls) stood
first with 91.53 per cent marks. Muhammad Hasnain Mamdani of Al-Murtaza School
(Boys) 90.12 per cent and Nihaan Shahzad of Habib Girls School 90 per cent stood
second and third respectively.

The examinations, conducted in both English and
Urdu, were held in 22 examination centres across Pakistan. Practical
examinations in both Science and Arts subjects were held in April as a
conclusion to course work followed by a fortnight for revision before the theory
examinations in May.
As a national examination board and one of the 27
boards in the country, AKU-EB offers affordable examinations at the secondary
and higher secondary level that encourage students to redirect their efforts
towards more worthwhile learning and to develop their critical thinking skills.
Schools can rely on the examinations to assess their students\\\' understanding of
subjects while colleges can depend on the integrity of the results for their
admission process.

Mr Manzoor Hussain, Principal of Unique Public
School, Muffargarh spoke about his experience, “I am glad to be affiliated with
AKU-EB as it delivers quality educational services. Our students enjoy the exam
pattern as it discourages rote learning and makes learning a pleasure rather
than a burden.”
The Principal of AES School, Karachi, Mr Amin said
“When I got my school affiliated, I faced difficulties introducing the new
system to replace the Cambridge system. Now AKU-EB is seen as a blessing because
of its services and innovations. Our students and teachers take pride in being
affiliated with it and have accepted the challenge. Working with AKU-EB requires
hard work and dedication but I am sure this effort will pay off.”
AKU-EB uses an electronic marking system to check
the papers, which protects the candidate against possible errors on the
examiners\\\' part. A single examiner marks a specific question for a large number
of candidates resulting in higher quality grading that benefits students. The
process also helps provide feedback on candidate performance question by
question and school by school, helping AKU-EB provide support to the teachers
and school management where needed. E-marking also makes it possible to release
results within 48 days of holding the examinations.
This year, supplementary examinations will be held
from August 18, 2008 to allow candidates with one or two subject failures to
improve their chances of entering college this year.
